a brand is a commercial asset, not a logo
A buyer's diligence team isn't underwriting the logo. It wants to know whether customers choose the company on value or on price, whether they stay, and whether the brand works without the founder in the room.
That's what branding private equity companies means to us. Positioning first, then identity, and every claim backed by a number diligence can validate. A brand customers prefer can support pricing power; that's where it shows up in the model.
two kinds of brand, one rule
The firm's brand and a portco's brand do different work. We build both and keep them apart.
What it's for
for the PE firm
Better deal flow and LP attention
for the portfolio company
Customers won, pricing, and a stronger exit story
Who's judging
for the PE firm
Founders, investment bankers and intermediaries, LPs and prospective LPs
for the portfolio company
Customers, the buyer's diligence team, the next sponsor
What we build
for the PE firm
Firm positioning, sector theses, website, voice
for the portfolio company
Positioning, identity, and brand architecture across add-ons
When it matters
for the PE firm
Before a fundraise, before entering a new sector
for the portfolio company
Post-close, after add-ons, before exit
How it's measured
for the PE firm
Quality of inbound deals and conversations
for the portfolio company
Win rates, pricing, pipeline
what the diagnosis may call for
Only what the diagnosis says matters. Most clients use some of this, not all of it.
- (01)
positioning that holds up
Customer interviews, win-loss analysis and a competitive map, landing on positioning the numbers back up. Not a slogan workshop.
- (02)
post-close repositioning
A new owner is a reason to change what the company stands for, not just its look. We align the brand with the value creation plan the deal team underwrote.
- (03)
brand architecture for buy-and-build
Several add-ons, several names. We decide which merge, which stay, and how to migrate customers without losing organic rankings or their trust.
- (04)
identity and messaging
Logo, identity, voice and a messaging framework sales and marketing actually use. Built once, used everywhere. The design files and guidelines belong to the company.
- (05)
the PE firm's own brand
Your sector theses, the story behind them, and a website founders read before they take the meeting. More on marketing for PE firms.
- (06)
rollout
Website, sales decks, content, signage. A new brand nobody uses is just a PDF.
before you rebrand, find the leaks
A new brand won't fix a funnel that leaks customers. The free Portfolio Marketing Audit shows where marketing appears to lose money from the outside, an estimated cost where the evidence allows, and what we'd validate first inside the business. No call needed.

proof, not promises
At U.S. Waterproofing, branded search (people searching for the company by name) is up 339%, and the click-through rate on those searches rose from 19% to 32%.
when a rebrand is worth the money
Rebrands are expensive and slow. We'll tell you when one isn't worth it.
When it is, it's usually one of these, and the earlier it starts, the more of the hold it has to pay back. EY's exit readiness study1 found PE firms that prepare 12 to 24 months before exit report about double the increase in exit value.
signs it's time
- A new owner and a new plan, but the old story
- Three add-ons, three brands, one confused customer
- Deals won on relationships and lost on price
- The brand depends on the founder
- The brand won't hold up when diligence calls your customers
- Exit is 12 to 24 months out

Two things: the PE firm's own brand, which supports deal flow and LP relationships, and each portfolio company's brand, built to support growth and a story that holds up at exit. Both need evidence behind them, not adjectives.
Not always. Rebrand when the plan has changed, when add-ons need to come under one brand, or when the current positioning can't carry the growth plan. Otherwise, sharpen the messaging and leave the name alone.
We score every acquired brand on customer equity, search visibility and fit with the plan. Then we choose: one master brand, a master brand with endorsed brands under it, or separate brands. We migrate in phases so customers and organic rankings come with you.
It depends on how many brands, websites and markets are involved. We size it after the diagnosis and plan it against the hold, so the new brand has time to earn back its cost before exit.
Yes. For firms we build positioning, sector theses, the website and the voice that founders, investment bankers and intermediaries see first. Your compliance team still reviews fund marketing before anything is published.
